Mural at Wonder, Leesburg VA
I had the great pleasure of creating this mural for the beautiful backyard at Wonder, a playspace in Leesburg, Virginia. The aim was to bring color, fun, and whimsy to this storage area. We reinforced the branding with a beautiful quote that also integrates the name Wonder, and featured Wonder brand colors throughout. The background color ties in with the color of the stairs. The floral motifs speak to the beautiful outdoor space, and also the way these children will grow and bloom through play.
My design process began with a color palette, the quote, and a lot of sketches. After we drilled down on the design, I did a sample painting to test our colors and make sure they really sang together.
After that it was time to clean, prime, and paint paint paint! Thank you so much to Ashley and Reagan for this incredibly fun opportunity. I got to spend my summer evenings covered in paint, watching fireflies and listening to live music in downtown Leesburg.
MURAL 101 AT ODEN HALL
In the fall of 2025 I got to participate in an incredible mural painting program with the Parks and Recreation department of Frederick, Maryland. Created and run by multi-talented muralist and arts educator Jamie Gerhold, the program brought together a team of 6 artists to get hands-on experience and instruction painting a mural alongside Jamie. We started with her design and collaborated on adding different elements. Then, with her instruction and help, we primed, transferred the images to the wall, and painted away!
I was lucky enough to get to design a few areas. The team decided to include a little star-nosed mole I’d drawn on the back wall, and we also used my buggy, underground design for the entirety of the long, low wall.
I cannot express what a delight it was to create in such a collaborative, inspiring environment. Everyone worked together painting each element. No egos, just learning and making. Much thanks and love to my classmates, Jackie, KC, Molly, Deb, and Karissa! And huge huge thanks to our incredible teacher Jamie for being so generous with her time and knowledge!
MURALS IN MY HOME
Murals for my own babies! I painted this rainbow for my daughter to celebrate her moving to her Big Girl Room when she turned 3. After much conversation and brainstorming, we decided on a rainbow and then all of the other things she likes. A schoolbus, a duck, climbing things, blueberries, dinosaurs, and all the rest!
I’ve also been painting our playroom mural in stages. Mountains to honor the Blue Ridge Mountains that bring me so much inspiration, and lots of fun little plants and color.
